Back at my sewing machine - FINALLY !

Hello There....Happy Tuesday!

I can't believe its been two months since I last posted anything about my crafting journey.

Hubby and I have been traveling, graduations, weddings, and family reunions. As always its great seeing everyone but even better to return home!

I've been home for almost two weeks and have spent most of the time in my sewing room.  I need to add new items to my shop, so I started with a few simple projects that can be done in a day to get back in the sewing/quilting groove.

I am a pre cut fabric junkie and the finished projects I'm sharing today were made with charm packs.

Charm Pack Table Runners

Wonky Star

I used a Kaffe Fassett charm pack to create this Indian Summer wonky star table runner. Loosely following this tutorial, I created four (4) 12 inch wonky star blocks.

I took the remaining 5 inch squares from the pack, cut them in half and sewed them together end to end creating a scrappy border. In my stash I found a few jelly roll strips also from another Kaffe collection for a scrappy binding.  All in all a truly yummy fall scrappy quilt project in beautiful reds and gold.

Charming Stars

A few years ago I made this baby quilt using a tutorial from Moda Bake Shop.

I decided to use the pattern again as a table runner and make the stars wonky.

Ohio Star Table Runner

Sometimes the fabric dictates what pattern I choose to use. I love the warm colors found in the Kansas Troubles for Moda fabric collections, I find their prints cozy, rustic and very traditional.

For this runner I chose the Ohio Star quilt block. I know there are several videos teaching how to make hourglass quilt blocks using charm squares, I decided to go old school and use my Fons & Porter Half & Quarter Ruler to create the hourglass blocks.

I cut the charms into 2 rectangles (2.5 x 5 inches) and used the ruler to cut the quarter triangles. Yes, it can be a bit tedious, but I find using this tool my struggles with bias edges are minimal.

Again, after making the stars I used the remaining rectangles to create the scrappy border.

Scrappy Stars Table Runner

My favorite charm pack table runner is the Zig Zag Stars Table Runner pattern demonstrated by Shabby Fabrics, you can watch the tutorial here.

I've made this pattern several times and this is the latest version using Farmhouse Christmas charm pack by Echo Park for Riley Blake.

This time with the remaining charm squares I made a smaller scrappy hourglass runner!

Until next time....craft the life you love ❣

  1. Hi Karla! Each project is cuter than the next! I really adore the Scrappy Stars in those pretty Christmas prints. I bet they will all sell quickly. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
